Interview: 3 Mind Blight
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today? When I was around two years old we found an old piano. I loved the sound and started playing from there I branched out into all instruments and singing, producing etc. If I didn't do music I would write and direct movies as well as act in them. It was a toss up for awhile as I did do acting but music won.
What do you like to do when your not playing music and how does that influence your creativity? I spend time with family and my animals. I also write books and poetry. Everything in life influences creativity. Different sights and sounds and being outside with my animals in nature. The ideas flow and creations are made.
How long has your band been around? Since 2018, but i never really got started until 2020.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music? Tulsa,Oklahoma
It really did not change my ideas of music. There is a great rock scene here though so it does help with that side of 3Mind Blight
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you.
There are a ton of reasons for the name but we will just go with the fact that I make Metal, Hip-Hop and Rap. ( 3 styles, 3 minds ) That used to work when explaining but now I make over 50 different styles. So lets say , Id alter and ego.
Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played. One show, everyone was drinking and fighting and throwing bottles. Not fun. I do not play live shows anymore for now though
Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you haven't already? Never really had a favorite.
If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket? Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, Godsmack, Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch and 3Mind Blight
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band? Find your own sound and do something unique to stand out. Playing or sounding like the best band is only acting and will get you nowhere.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be? Never sign a record deal.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why? Breaking Down or Silenced By The Sound. Breaking Down- because it retells a life of someone with mental health
issues and i think it displays it well. It was made for mental health and for its understanding. Silenced By The Sound - because I think it resonates with anyone who feels lost in this world or overwhelmed by thoughts, feelings etc.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most? Reaper
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
I am inspired by all things. I like to see a song as a movie and as it plays out I create it
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music? Life may be hard but if you don't give up and try you can make it through anything. ( I just do / say it in a way that seems dark and ominous )
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them? I do all of this myself but yes I still have disagrements ;)
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that's coming up? I just releases two albums and 3 singles since Jan 2022. I am working on a FULL Metal album called Look On The Blight Side that I am really looking forward to letting everyone hear. It should be finished by April 2022. In the meantime they can listen to all of my previous tracks and follow me on Twitter https://twitter.com/3mindblight to keep up to date.
