Hello Alyssa! Thank you for speaking with me today!
Of course, I'm excited to be here!
You just released your new song 'Run'! Will you tell us about it?
Yes! "Run" is a song I wrote that was directed at someone I know who was in a really unhealthy relationship. This song is basically me telling her that even though she really loves him, this relationship is ruining your life and you have to "run". Ultimately I hope this song raises awareness for how common toxic relationships are and maybe can help people realize some of the signs they or someone they love are in one.
What was the creative process for it?
I think some of my best songs are the ones I bust out and write in 20 minutes, and this was one of those songs. I was feeling really frustrated, and after messing around on guitar I quickly figured out a melody and lyrics to match. This song wasn't initially a pop song at all, it was more rock. My producer, Nathan Darmody, came up with an idea to change the melody of the chorus and make it a pop song, and it is so much better now! Although it might be cool to release the original version someday!
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I have many influences, but my biggest influence would be Taylor Swift, which I'm sure is very common among younger female singer-songwriters these days. She is just the most amazing songwriter! I also am inspired by Colbie Cailat, Alanis Morrissette, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Ryan Tedder, and Sheryl Crow. I've seen all of them in concert except Alanis Morrissette, so she's next on my bucket list!
Who would be a dream collaboration for you?
Taylor Swift would definitely be my dream collaboration.
Do you have a saying or piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?
I would say one thing that has helped me is learning to not compare myself to everyone else's musical journey. Just because you may have less streams or less followers than other musicians doesn't mean you aren't successful or that you should give up. The music business is super competitive, so I think being confident in yourself and not getting discouraged is really important.
Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
I have some covers I'll be releasing on youtube soon! Other than that, I have a ton of original songs ready to record so be on the lookout! I would also love to do a music video for "Run".
Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
