Interview: Bazerk
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
What got me into music was when I went to go see George Clinton for the first time in my life I was in shock and that day started my journey into music,if I was not doing music I would be a life coach for people to keep pushing in life.
What do you like to do when you're not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
When I am not doing music I am playing basketball or watching motivational videos, this influences my creativity in writing and the sassy the and cadence also having a mindset on how to keep reaching for goals.
How long has your band been around?
We been around since 2005
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are outta south central Los Angeles and being born outta the worst neighborhood has a big part of our music violence ,gang banging, drive byes and lower government housing brings writing critical.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
I came up with the name Bazerk because I didn't want people to have to guess what kinda music it was, I wanted a one word symbol, so soon you hear Bazerk first thing comes to mind weird, bizarre ,crazy, alternative some off beat.
Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played?
The best show I ever played was when I played for Prince birthday party and he came back stage and congratulated us we so happy, The worst show we played was when we payed 1100 to open up for national act for 30 minute set, First song sound system was shit could not hear us 2 minutes into our set they cut us off and put on the next band no question ask, and our name wasn't even on the bill!
Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you haven't already?
My favorite place to play is the Palladium here in Los Angeles they have the best system and the vibe is always good. Big bands come here, Our place we want to play is the Greek theater. Then you know you made it big when you play there.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
The legends never Die tour
Bazerk, Red hot chili peppers, Limp bizkit, Rage against the machine
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band?
Find yourself some people who love music first, not as a hobby but for life ,then make sure they have a vision like yours cause down the road it will pay off.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
It would be , that all this time through your hardship in life I am worth it and was good enough all this time.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
The song that means to us is our first song we ever wrote. Hello America is the us introducing our sound to the world and at our concerts we cut the music off and the audience sings along for me writing that song that works to the world. It gives me a good feeling.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Our favorite song to play is called You Can Hate Me. It's a punk rock high tempo song that gets the crowd going into this huge mosh pit stage diving mess, Everybody always requests us to play that and also rage against the machine bulls on parade they go nuts.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
The creative process is always different. I would write the words first or hear a medley coming in or something will set me up, or the gods would just speak to my heart. What inspires me is people I see who still have the fight for life or my favorite artist or the world crisis. It comes from all sides.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Our message is quite simple: live your life, say that shit live with no regrets, we all got voices, use your gifts cause if not your life will soon be over and no more chances, so write and say it, put it out there.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
We have disagreements all the time fights like a dysfunctional family , What I do since I am the leader I give them time to think about their actions on what are they doing to make this band better if they can't improve what they are complaining about then time to move on, or the worst way to fix it is to be in the room and ignore what we fighting about and laugh at ourselves and bring up other bands who broke up
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that's coming up?
The plan is as always what is was, to make Bazerk a household name and tour and kill ever show till we can't go any more,The future is just to do this music for a living and get paid for what we live to do, We have a single out with Fishbones Angelo Moore called Gonna Have A Good Time, we are also did a remake of Limp Bizkits Break Stuff coming up brand new Bazerk album call Famous For Nothing looking to do a tour in your city, check for our Have Mercy 2 before I go I would like to thank the hole staff for having us and Sam from the label we appreciate it stay mentality safe yall know your worth in life
