Interview: CLAY G
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I started doing music when I was a youth but didn’t start recording until high school. It was always something I did for fun but never got serious about it until I realized the power that music had if the message was positive and scriptural. So much of today’s Pop/Hip Hop Music leads people astray so I wanted to use music to lead people to God or just have a positive influence on people who are struggling lives. I own a construction company and am a Real Estate Investor as well so If I wasn’t doing music I would just be focused on my career.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I own a Design/Build Firm in Dallas Texas and Flip Houses on the side. Both music and construction give me the opportunity to take nothing and make it into something which is what fuels my creativity.
How long has your band been around?
My Production Team has been together for 10 years, Clay G, Tony B & O.Z.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
I am based out of Dallas, TX. There isn’t a very big Reggae scene in Dallas but we do have one so being apart of it and seeing it grow is always motivating.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
It's just my First Name and Last Initial. I never want to be someone that I’m not so I kept it simple and authentic.
Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played.
I don’t have any crazy stories about performing. I prefer to be in the studio rather then on stage but hopefully that will change one day.
If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket?
Cali Reggae Fest or Reggae Rise Up in Florida. Its always been a dream to be apart of a large Reggae Festival.
