Interview: Jenn Ford
Hi Jenn! Thank you for chatting with me today!
Tell us about your latest release!
Yes! It's called The Hot Mess Express and is a fun summer tune for the gals. Its about letting your hair down and just going out to get in a bit of trouble with your best friend after a long day, a long week, or in most cases, a long year. My sister was a Covid Nurse during 2020 and raising a toddler, so its kind of a nod to her, because she deserves a break. She helped me write the line "Ditch them yoga pants, put on your favorite boots," which is such the vibe right now after being through the Pandemic. We all just want a break.
What was your favorite part of the creative process for it?
I like to write songs with sassy lyrics, so if I feel a certain way, or an attitude and can write it down somewhere, sometimes a song comes out of it. I am so busy with my own family that I write in passing much of the time. It's just a stream of ideas that I record in notes on my phone, or random sheets of paper and the melody goes on my phone and I save everything until it feels like a song has been made. I'm a little embarrassed by how scattered that sounds, but it feels natural and comes naturally when I catch those moments as they come.
Do you remember when you realized you wanted to pursue music as a career?
Yes, probably around the age of 21. I had always wanted to work in music, but was unsure how, and didn't have the guidance or support. I joined the Army to get out of my small town, do something honorable, and see the world. Exposing myself to culture and traveling opened my eyes to my own dreams and potential. I ended up back in music in several army bands, and eventually surrendered to pursuing music full time around 2012.
Who would be a dream collaboration for you?
Anything with Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd, The Allman Brothers, or Susan Tedeschi
Do you have a bucket list, dream job you would like to achieve?
I want to tour in Europe again, but this time with my own band. I'd also like to have my own studio space.
How do you stay balanced between artist life and normal life?
This is my whole life, but I have the support of my husband and a great team around me. I couldn't do it without my family, my fans, a dedicated band, my producer, or my label.
