Hi Joey! Thank you for speaking with me today!
No problem, I love to talk LOL!
What have you been working on lately?
I have been working on a new album, but with the issues with COVID and touring, while I am still putting the final touches on the record, I am considering delaying the release until I can safely get back to touring.
Still a bit up in the air at the moment, but such are the times in which we live.
Other than that, still working for my studio/production clients as a recording engineer and producer.
Do you have any non music goals you are working toward!
Yeah, since the start of the COVID crisis, I decided to make the long overdue start on weight loss!
I started in late April of 2020 and now have lost over 90 pounds and on a program that doesn’t make me feel hungry or tired!
I want to lose a total of 160 pounds, so we’ll see how it goes, but my health is better than it was when I was heavier.
Have you noticed any shifts or changing trends in the music world lately that you find intriguing?
There is always something new, like NFT. But, mainly I am focused on reforming the copyright laws so that both songwriters and performers get paid for things like radio and working to try and get streaming royalties to at least match terrestrial royalty rates.
Granted, my voice is just a small one, but if we all do our part, we can create change!
What role do you feel that music and musicians play in society?
I have always thought that artists of any stripe act as historians, philosophers, forward thinkers and the social conscience of the world. Of course, sometimes, we are just entertainers and that is wonderful as well.
By sharing thoughts and feelings we can make amazing change in the world around us!
What do you feel are characteristics of great music?
Intention, thoughtful lyrics, good rhythms, and melody!!!
Of course, you can throw in things like vibe and heart, there so many different elements to a great song and sometimes, you have all those things and sometimes just one of them, like a great lyric or a great performer. At the end of the day, it is all about communication!
Please let everyone know where to keep up with you and your music!
