Interview: Joey Stuckey
Hi Joey! Great to speak with you!
Have you been working on any new projects recently that you want to tell us about?
My focus for last few weeks has been my “Joey Stuckey Alive Day”
This is the day the brain tumor that took my sight was successfully removed when I was about 2 years old. Though the tumor left me blind and with a host of other health challenges, I survived though doctors didn’t think I would.
My family always celebrated this day, 9/29 as a kind of second birthday. However, in 2017, I wanted to do something more for everyone on this day so I started a free family-friendly music festival in downtown Macon, GA, where we could take a moment and revel in the joy of life and music and just connect with the entire community.
The Mayor of Macon, where I also serve as the official music ambassador, declared 9/29 officially as “JoeyStuckey Alive Day” in Macon/Bibb.
Check out the proclamation here https://youtu.be/nJrnnbsrQa0
If you have a few minutes, you can check out the inaugural festival by checking out these 3 episodes of my web TV series “Behind The Shadow”:

Finally, if you really want to do a deep dive into the Stuckeyverse, here is my mini documentary called “Don’t Blink” that will give you a good short overview of my life and music.
What are some sources of inspiration for your lyrics and storytelling?
I write what I know--from things I have directly experienced to things I can imagine. Some of my music is autobiographical and some isn’t, but it is all told with honesty and empathy.
I love life and the world around me and am so inspired by the universe around me! I love to learn and much of what I write comes from that true interest in other people and places.
In essence, I am a story teller that uses music as a medium!
When you are at a gig, what are 3 things you have to have with you?
Batteries, picks and liquid refreshment!
But, Also, business cards, my cell phone and all my other gear to get the job done, like my guitar LOL.
Was there a record or artist that changed your life the first time you heard them?
Oh yeah, so many, but the Beatles for sure, Nirvana and Miles Davis!
I could go on and on, like talking about the Smiths and U2, but we would be here a while LOL.
How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
I would like to think my music either entertains or inspires and if I am truly blessed, the music somehow breaks down barriers and brings comfort or some new understanding of life that provides the listener with a new idea or thought that does something positive for them.
I have long said that I just want to leave the world a little better than I found it and I am glad to do so one person and one song at a time!
Also, I hope they feel like my music has brought something of value to their life and they buy something from me to support my ability to make more music!
The money I make from streams or radio play is not enough to live on. Buying a CD or T-shirt is the best way to assist me to bring more music to the world.
Please let everyone know where to find you and your music!
