Interview: Lovesick Radio

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today? David: For me is was Hearing Aerosmith & Led Zeppelin. That music forever changed me. If I had not gotten into music what would i be doing...I honestly don’t have an answer to that. Nothing interests me like music so I have no idea. But it would probably involve being creative. Troy: I’m gonna blame my parents for music. If I wasn’t doing music I’d absolutely need another creative outlet so some type of art...i dabble in graphic design so maybe that. What do you like to do when your not playing music and how does that influence your creativity? David: I workout a lot. It opens my mind up & helps work off anything negative maybe weighting me down. Troy: I love to travel and if travel doesn’t inspire and influence you, I don’t know what will. Every place on earth has a unique vibe and energy. How long has your band been around? David: This line ups been together about 2 years now. In that short time we have gotten to do some amazing things. We are very fortunate. Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music? David: I grew up in ohio but also live in Vegas. I definitely think both places have influenced me musically . Just the Energy, The people, the sites & sounds of both places. Theyre both so different & I love it! Troy: I grew up in a small rural town in Ohio. It def influenced my blue collar work ethic and story teller type songwriting. How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you. David: Our drummer at the time was going through a break up. He was saying how everything on the radio sounds LoveSick. We just kinda stop & look at each other & wrote it down. Plus our management at the time kept trying to talk us into using a name of some sports player. So we had to come up with something fast. Ha Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played. Troy: Best shows maybe slightly different than favorite. China was a highlight just because it was such a massive stage. Worst shows I try to forget but you can bet it had something to do with a bad monitor mix and not being able to hear correctly...a total buzz kill, but you just find a way to carry on. Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you haven't already? David: I’ve been lucky enough to play Madison Square gardens, The staple center, a few legendary stadiums. But I Would love to play the Tokyo Dome & sell it out! Troy: I’ve played the Whiskey on sunset strip in LA which obviously has some Killer history, also the Surf Ballroom which was the last place Buddy Holly And Ritchie Valens played before “the day music died”...those are pretty special. Places I want to play, I think Red Rocks would be pretty special, and why not the O2? Lol If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket? Troy: Because I have a feeling Dave will take The Stones and maybe Zep, give me Ac/Dc, but thats today...it will be different tomorrow! Haha David: haha. You can have AC/DC today. I think I’ll go with rival sons for me today. Love that band. So if they are in need we would love to volunteer! What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band? Troy: Find the right people. Develop chemistry and work your ass off. Check your ego at the door. If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be? Troy: Trust your gut and never compromise. David: Believe in what you are doing. & the song is key so write & rewrite till you have the strongest song possible. Of your songs which one means the most to you and why? David: Our song “ tell me why “. I think it really shows where both troys & i’s writing chemistry started. It was the 2nd song we wrote. Troy: Right now “Bloodshot Eyes” which oddly is a brand new track. It is about my personal experience dealing with depression, but seeing other people already writing us and telling us what it means to them this early on is pretty special. Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most? Troy: I’d say “tell me why”...its just rowdy and has been around for awhile so people seem to dig it plus its a ton of fun to play. David: I dig “Bloodshot Eyes” currently. Has a great vibe about it. & when we are tight playing it the song just smokes. What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music? Troy: The music inspires me initially...Dave will send an idea, either a riff or an entire demo and it takes me to a “place”...I’ll live with it for a bit and just spew ideas until it feels right. Then take it to the guys for their input and we go from there. What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music? Troy: Passion and real life mixed with a bit of sarcasm just because it is never good to take yourself too seriously. Everyone and everything needs a balance. Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them? Troy: Absolutely, we are a band so disagreements are to be expected. The secret sauce is honesty and communication before a problem can get out of hand. No holding on and letting things build...you got a problem...get it out and be honest. Sounds easy, but you’d be surprised how many bands cant communicate or be honest. What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that's coming up? David: Our new song “Bloodshot Eyes “ comes out 4/26/19. I’m proud of what we were able to do with that track. It’s pretty straight forward for us but it has a vibe. The future holds a lot more new songs & playing shows around the globe. & I cant fucking wait!
