What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today? I started playing guitar in elementary school, but really found a passion for it om high school. I later got into producing electronic music in university. If I hadn't got into music, I'd be doing what I do now, haha, I'm a Civil Engineer. What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity? I love film making and videography. How long has your band been around? I'm a solo act, and I've been doing it under the moniker Maml for about 5 years. Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music? I live in Vancouver, Canada. I think I have a West Coast, indie sort of vibe. Similar to Odesza. How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you. It's a play on the word Mammal. Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played. Best show = don't think I have one yet, haha. Worst one was DJing at a diner on News Years Eve. Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already? If you've ever watched Gioli and Assia on Youtube, they play in some pretty crazy outdoor areas, like Volcanos. Something like that would be cool. No specific venue in mind. If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket? Odesza, Shallou, Kasbo, Porter Robinson. If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be? Don't give up on piano lessons. Of your songs which one means the most to you and why? My upcoming single, Taking Steps. I put a lot into the track and collaborated with some amazing filmmakers on the music video. Which songs are your favorite to play? I have a track called 'Shadows Across the Moon". Go check it out on YouTube. What is the creative process for you, and what inspires you to write your music? I usually get inspired by film. I approach each song like a soundtrack to a movie. What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music? No specific messages. But I try and produce a video / short story for most releases. I hope they come across as inspiring. What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up? My next release, Taking Steps, comes out on February 21.
