Interview: Modern Amusement
Hello! Great to speak with you today!
Hello, thanks for having me!
What have you been working on lately?
Well, we just released our debut album Modern Amusement back in May and more recently a single that didn't quite make it on the album called "I Have A Crush On Lisa Loeb." We spent most of the pandemic time of 2020 writing and recording music and now we have a pretty big backlog with even more coming soon to share with everyone!
Who inspired you to get into music?
I've been into lots of different types of music since I was young, but the band that really kicked me into getting into the music world was when I heard Weezer's Blue Album in high school. I was always a pretty nerdy outcast-type kid and I was blown away when I heard this band singing about the same types of problems I was having growing up and being total rock stars about it, I didn't think it was possible until then! I have never had an album that has resonated with me more than that one still to this day and it made me determined to create something that could give someone else a similar feeling to what I had with that album.
When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?
It was probably a little bit after high school, I went through playing in a lot of different bands before then but we didn't take things too seriously. But when I started getting really into writing my own music I felt like I could really do this for a living if I tried really hard. Making music is my biggest spark and making into a career kind of became my main dream.
What is your favorite song you've ever released and why?
I would say The Miserable Losers. I'm really happy with how it all came together and it was one of the first times that the lyrics and instrumentation came out sounding exactly how I heard it in my head.
Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?
Weezer will always be my #1 influence, but to name a few others I have particularly been influenced by lately I would mention Fun., The Format, Tally Hall, and Poppy. I'm always on the lookout for artists who have that gift for songcraft and can also constantly reinvent themselves.
Any plans to start performing live as shows pick back up?
I'm very excited to get back to playing shows! I'm planning to have quite a few coming in this fall, I really want to sing these new songs for the world!
What is your favourite song to perform?
I would say The Miserable Losers again, I think it has a perfect energy for live shows and it lets me stretch my vocal muscles very nicely.
What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve?
I would like to see more authentic, homemade artists getting the spotlight. I think in popular music sometimes we lack that authentic side and I would like to see it become more prominent. Those people who work hard from the ground up deserve to be given a chance!
Please let everyone know how they can keep up with you and your music!
The best place for updates from Modern Amusement at the moment would be our Twitter, @ModernAmusemen2, I've been working on keeping that as up to date as possible, also our Instagram modernamusement_band has some pretty sweet content as well!
Thank you for your time!
