Interview: Off Wing

Hi Off Wing! It is great to have you here today!

Great to be here, thanks for having us. 

You have a release coming up! Will you tell us a bit about what we can expect?

A fun beach song for summer 2021. Slightly more developed sound but with the same uptempo electric energy. We really like the way it sounds.

What was your creative process like for this project?

The main riff changed about a million times. The song was more mellow at first too, then we decided to try packing a punch with it, and we liked the higher energy better.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Conor (guitar/vocal): Huge variety. But: Stones, Zep, Pearl Jam

Matt the bassist: I’d list The Strokes, blink-182, and Green Day as some of my biggest musical influences. A lot of what I play on bass is trying to emulate Mike Dirnt and Mark Hoppus.

If you could collaborate with any artist past or present, who would it be?

Conor: One of our favorite bands is Twin Peaks, and we actually worked with one of their members (Cadien) to mix a demo version of our upcoming single; we’re releasing that demo tape soon as well.

Matt: I wouldn’t be from NJ if I didn’t say Bruce Springsteen here. The best of all time. Having Cadien from Twin Peaks give us some input and advice and even do some mixing has been a really cool experience as well.

What keeps you all motivated and inspired?

We just have fun with it and like to jam. We love music and we love making music so it doesn’t ever seem like work. Right now we’re just enjoying the process and having fun together, and if some other people enjoy the music we make, that’s awesome.

What does it mean to you all to be authentic?

Pushing the envelope and not being afraid to try new sounds. Not really creating music that other people want to hear, but making something that we genuinely enjoy playing.

What is a piece of advice you carry with you that you would like to share with your fans?

Our producer told us that we need to stop worrying about being perfect and just let it rip - loudly. Probably the best advice anyone has given us. Also—just be nice to each other.
