Interview: PERFECT MESS
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Well, we all had a spark for music from the early years in our lives and started playing musical instruments, then in our teens, rock ‘n’ roll came into our lives and changed the game. We aren’t making a living off music (yet…) so we all have our jobs, two of us are secondary school professors, one is an engineer and the other an architect, we would probably be doing the same thing in our lives but may have been miserable without music being a part of it.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
We all have our jobs and families and struggle daily with the obligations that came with it. Everything gives us inspiration and thoughts to put into our music.
How long has your band been around?
We have been around since 2012 jamming around, soon we started performing live and at the same time, even from the very beginning, we started writing music.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are based out of pure, genuine, rock ‘n’ roll! Whatever sounds real, from the heart and powerful. The rock and grunge scene from the 80’s and 90’s throughout to the 2000’s carved our music and influenced us to start making music and expressing ourselves.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
The name of the band came to us totally by luck but it being an oxymoron stuck with us showing the different types and styles of music we play.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
One of our most memorable shows that comes to us was in Kalamata City (Greece), in 2018 during our first tour for our debut album and then in 2020 in Patras City (Greece) alongside with Planet of Zeus, one of our last lives before the pandemic burst out. Both shows were about 45 min long and the crowds were amazing from our first note. The hole venue was dancing and headbanging all through the show.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
We don’t have a specific venue that we love to play at. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a small bar or a big venue, if the vibe is right and you play as it’s your last show you will favor every place.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
It would certainly be one of Rock Am Ring and Download Festival. Honestly, anyone on that ticket wouldn’t make a difference if we played there.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Never give up, practice as much as you can, play as many lives as you possibly can and persist your goals. The advice I think the advice we would give to our younger selves would be start getting into music, forming the band and performing live earlier, much younger.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
It would exactly be what we said above: start getting into music, forming the band and performing live earlier, much younger.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Every song means much to us. From the first to the last and every song for a different reason.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Honestly, any of our songs. If we didn’t like them in the first place they wouldn’t be on any album.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
We get in our studio and jam, that’s mainly it. All of us bring ideas but it’s the process of jamming together in a room that brings our songs to life.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Every song has a different meaning and was written for a different reason. All of our music touches every individual in various ways. We hope to inspire, help and just make someone smile.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
All the time. Our band is like a relationship. We have our good times and bad times. But in the end it’s all about what we feel like when we play music. We are like family to each other.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Play music live as much as we can and be heard as much as possible. We hope our fans like and embrace our new album, called ‘Breathe’, as much as we have. It’s time to start breathing again…
