Interview: Phenomy
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Sam (Vocalist) : Music has always been a part of my life, my grandfather was a composer and an amazing musician. My first guitar was actually a gift from him to my mother. And if I hadn't gotten into music I'd most probably be doing something that has to do with drawing, painting.
What do you like to do when you’re not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Sam (Vocalist) : If I'm not playing music I'm most probably gaming or injuring myself while trying to build something. I can usually get creative when I'm calm, that's why those activities help me get in the zone.
How long has your band been around?
The band has been around for 7 years, so I would say quite a while.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Sam (Vocalist) :Home base is good old Lebanon, you can hear that middle Eastern sound in some of our melodies and beats. Even though metal music is infamous in Lebanon, you can still find like-minded metal heads that want to headbang.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Sam (Vocalist) : Phenomy is one of those words that has no meaning but can mean the fucking world if you want it to.
Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played.
Sam (Vocalist) : Personally the best show I ever played was Wacken 2018, the stage was huge, the sound was great, but the best thing was the crowd, I've had never before seen so many people in one place.
The worst show we've played I guess was part of our Eastern European tour, we played for the band that toured with us and they did the same because the club owner at the time put the wrong dates on the posters.
Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you haven't already?
Sam (Vocalist) : There isn't 1 favorite venue for me, a stage is a stage. Any new country I visit I get excited to play in. I would Personally like to play a show on Mars whenever that would be possible.
If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket?
Sam (Vocalist) :It would be us and then Metallica 4 times
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band?
Sam (Vocalist) : The only advice I can give is play well with others, build a bond with your band, and play what sounds good to you.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Sam (Vocalist) : "GET MUSIC LESSONS!!!!"
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Sam (Vocalist) : Every song has a meaning or a feeling connected to it, they all have the same importance, they're just different.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Sam (Vocalist) : Right now, "The mute, the deaf, the blind" for sure ... it just has that weight to it you know? It's heavy.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Sam (Vocalist) : A lot of things inspire us, movies, video games, comic books, other bands and musicians... it's a little bit of everything.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Sam (Vocalist) : Life isn't always sunshine and unicorn farts, sometimes life is aggressive, it's rude, cold... our music reflects that. If you been through dark times, you are not alone.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Sam (Vocalist) : We rarely disagree, and if we do we usually talk it out... but if that didn't work the two parties would be locked in a room with blunt weapons... that usually solves it
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that's coming up?
Sam (Vocalist) : There are a lot of plans for the future... the third album was just released, we are working on new content and we are always writing new music.
We are also excited to get back on the road and perform in our home country on April 9th and at Rock
Castle Festival in August with big bands like Septic Flesh.
We are working on more dates that should be announced soon hopefully.
