Interview: RED ROLL
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I don’t know, I have always been playing since I can remember…music always been a part of my life. I can’t imagine my life without music!
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I like snowboarding.. it feel me free! I like mountains in winter, the silence of the snow! It’s a big inspiration for me!
How long has your band been around?
We started playing together almost 2 years ago but each of us have been playing since 15 years I think!
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are from Italy. We live in a small village closed to Bologna. Our musical influences comes from the “Rock world”, but each of us have different inclinations. Grunge, Metal, punk rock and rock… this is our world! We love band like Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, Alter Bridge, Muse etc…
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Red Roll, for us means a red carpet to enter in another world, our world made by all our dreams, fears…. Red roll is our way of life…a way to make sense of our being here!
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
We played a concert in Bormio – Italy, during the ski world cup. It was a great experience…!
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
We like every kind of venue. We like feel the audience, so probably we prefer the little venue where the stage is really close to the audience!
Anyway we would like to be able to open a big band like foo fighters or Biffy Clyro!
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket? Ahahah, as I wrote for sure the line up it would be: Red Roll Foo Fighters Biffy Clyro Muse….
It could be in different order for sure ahahah
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Playing in a band, trying to live with your music it’s a great way to live, but it is a very difficult way too… full of very difficult moment. It need a strong passion first of all. Passion move every single steep in this career! I don’t have a strong advice… only be yourself, trying to be yourself and find your way to communicate, out of any rules!
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Drink less…ahahah
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Knives, our last single for sure! I wrote it in a very difficult personal moment. One of thoose moment wich you ask yourself where the f. god is. Wrote that song was like a therapy … a way to metabolize pain!
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
I think Call Me Mad and Red Lights… the first one it is probably our well-known song, and the second one is the funniest to play live!
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
We don’t have one way to create music! Usually we start from an idea: a guitar riff, a vocal line, a text or a suggestion. Then we work a lot together… in rehearsal room trying to give a structure to the song. For this new album we recorded “at home” all the songs… to able to listen to it and have a more clear idea… and to work better on it! We work with our producer too, for the arrangements etc…
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Our songs are mainly about feelings, emotions… They are an introspective journey into the sickest areas of our self!! ahah
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Sure! A band is like a family…. We share a lot of time and strong emotions togheter… very great and very bad moment! We share stage but bed too… we have long travel on bus ecc… so for sure there are disagreements sometimes but talking and sharing this dreams make every “problem” ….how to say…. A little problem!
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
After knives we strong worked about our new full album! At the moment we have all the new songs and we’ll record them in december! The new album will be release in may 2022!
Hope talk to you again and thank you for this space!
