What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Läde: For me, music was always around when I was a kid. My father was a musician when he was younger and my older brother has played in bands as long as I've been old enough to remember. I played ice hockey seriously growing up and at that probably was a goal at some point, to become a pro athlete.
What do you like to do when you're not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Love being outdoors, hiking, and stuff like that. Forrest is my “happy place” and walking around in the woods with dogs gives you great peace and quiet in this hectic world. Also, a great place to think about stuff and a lot of lyrics originate from these walks.
How long has your band been around?
Revoltone was formed in late 2018 but all of us have a long colorful history in playing in different bands through out the years. Me and Diego (bass) have played in the same band since we were kids.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are based in Helsinki, Finland. Finland is well known for its metal music and that probably have influenced us in some way. I was into metal also at some point and had some influence from that too. But Onni (lead guitarist) has probably gotten into punk just to get away from all the metal stuff ?
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you.
When thinking of the name it was clear it needed to somehow reflect the message of the band. We played around with the term revolt cause that’s what we do INOUR OWN WAY and someone just came up with the idea that this is the tone of revolt and we turned it around and it there it was REVOLTONE
Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you haven't already?
Probably our favorite venue over in Finland would have to be either Semifinal in Helsinki or Henry’s Pub (RIP) in Kuopio.
We haven’t had the chance yet to play elsewhere in Europe with Revoltone yet (because of Covid) but hoping to do so as soon as the situation gets better.
If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket?
Great question hmm let’s see any line-up. Well, there definitely would be Rise Against, Millencolin and Descendents to name a few but there are so many great bands that this is almost an impossible question to answer.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band?
Do it, play as much as you can, play everything, and don’t think about it too much. Enjoy playing! Write your own songs and play the way and type of music you want to play without thinking too much!
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Learn how to play my instrument properly ? haha, No really maybe just that believe in yourself and be confident.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Tough one... All of them are meaningful but to chose one would probably be My Hero. When I wrote the lyrics my dad had recently passed away and the lyrics came straight out from those feelings.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
“We’ll find the sound” is a band favorite to play and I guess an older song called “It Hurts” is one that people seem to like live.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Most of the songs are born from demos that I do at my home studio. I usually have lyrics ready as well before taking it to the band. Then we tackle it as a band and make the demos Revoltone songs by always arranging them as a band. A lot of times the songs change quite a bit from the demos.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
This band is our honest way to deal with anger, disbelief, sickness, love, happiness, and most of all hope for the better. With and for everyone who needs strength and energy from great punk-rock tones.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
We are lucky that we get along super good. We also have some miles on our belts so all the teen rock-angst bullshit is well behind us.
And if there some disagreements they are always about arrangements of the songs etc that are of course healthy and needed to make the songs as good as they can be.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that's coming up?
We are releasing our debut album “For The Silent Voices” this Friday 23rd of April. It should be available in all streaming platforms and a physical cd is also available. You can get it from our record labels (Secret Entertainment) store www.inversestore.fi or at our Bandcamp page www.bandcamp.com/revoltone
