Interview: Standing Like Statues
How long has your band been around?
Standing Like Statues have been going since 2015, with the current line up active since 2019!
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We're from Cambridge, UK! We have a strong connection to our hometown as it's where most of us grew up and where we met and became friends. If you look closely at our first EP 'Make up and mind games' it has a Cambridge map, and our latest EP Reality Checkpoint is named after a Cambridge landmark.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
If you're a Shikari fan you'll know! We were inspired by the crowd at an Enter Shikari show growing up!
Tell me about your most memorable show.
Our frontman Jamie had backstage passes at a You Me At Six show where he met a DJ, who put us on a few months later at a CRAZY sold out night in Camden
What is your fav venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
We've had a few great shows in our hometown at 'The Junction' in Cambridge. Also, a show at Bedford Esquires would be fun! Surprisingly we haven't been there yet!
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Bring Me The Horizon Headliner > Taking Back Sunday > Standing Like Statues > Neck Deep > Avril Lavigne acoustic opener
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Keep persisting, practice a LOT and don't get defeated by disappointment, and watch out for snakes in the grass
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
From the band as a whole, we'd say the message from our new single 'truth hurts' resonates the most with us all.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Skylines is a great one to play and really pushes us as musicians, and we get a lot of compliments on this one!
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
continue to deliver on their unwillingness to compromise, with authenticity and honesty. It’s time to question the lies and to tell the undeniable truth, to trust in yourself, have faith in your own actions and to be an agent for positive change.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Hahahahah. Oh yeah. But we always come out stronger on the other side, which shows in the progression of our music
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Drop a music video within the next couple of weeks, followed by another new single, then go tour in the UK in May, festivals in the summer & then complete our debut album.
