Interview: The Fullbug

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today? Lavy: back then, I had a classic guitar lying around my house, I didn’t know how to play but I was very curious about it and used to hold it and pretend I know how to play, but I dropped it so many times that it finally broke. That’s when I asked my mom to send me to guitar lessons. At that time I discovered Aerosmith, and I really wanted to play like Joe Perry back then. Nadav: Music was always in the family so I kind of knew from a young age that it’s going get to me. If I wasn't playing guitar today I would totally spend too much time playing video games! Good thing I play the guitar... Asaf: carpenter, definitely a carpenter. The only reason I not a carpenter today is that I'm too afraid to cut my fingers off and I'm kind of sure it’ll happen... so if I didn't play drums... CARPENTER! How long has your band been around? The band has been around for almost 3 years In the current line up. Overall we’ve been playing together for 7 years. Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music? We’re based in Tel-Aviv, Israel, but most of our musical influences were what was coming from the USA and UK. growing up as kids in the 90’s we were introduced with a lot of American pop culture, You always got the feeling that whatever’s going on there, it’s big. That means tons of different bands and styles you get to explore. How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you. We were looking for a band name for some time. Jessie is a big Van Halen fan, and he came across their song “the full bug” and an interview with David Lee Roth, where he explains it’s a slang for “give it everything you got”. It’s good to have that reminder in your band name... If you could play any show with any lineup who would be on the ticket? Stone temple pilots, GNR, Royal blood, Death from above 1979 What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band? Don’t chase the dragon but do take chances... Which one Of your songs which one means the most to you and why? It’s one of our songs we have recorded yet, titled “summertime”, It’s a bit different from what we’ve done so far but still has the essence of what we’re about. What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music? Can’t put a finger on what inspires us, other than the music itself. We love to play our instruments, And sometimes you’re just sitting around playing your guitar, trying new things and humming along And you get that feeling when it adds up. Our process starts when someone brings an idea and we’ll take some time In the studio to mess with it and see what direction it takes us. Sometimes we’ll have lyrics the fits with a melody in our head then we’ll build around that. Then we’ll record a rough sketch at home and try to embellish on the ideas we had in the studio. What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music? That music can heal our soul Y’all! But really, a common message in our songs would be that you can’t escape your demons, You can fight them or you can make friends with them. What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that's coming up? We’re going to record new music very soon, follow our website for updates: www.thefullbug.com And check out our new video for “blood bath”. This is our first animated music video, made by Anton Egorov, an artist from Berlin.
