Interview with A Moment Of Violence
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Me personally, Brent, got into playing guitar at the age of nine by my grandfather who was also a guitarist, and I have not put it down since. As far as what I would be doing if i didn’t play guitar and now I am living in south Florida doing pest management between rehearsals, recording, and playing shows
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Not a day goes by that I don’t play music in some form, but when it’s not the focus of the day, we pretty much just hang out with family, and the kids, have cookouts, or go to the beach, just try to stay busy and have a good time
How long has your band been around? Dez (guitar), and Scotty (drums) have been playing together since I would say probably early 2021, and I (Brent) came in around October (ish) of 2021, then we secured our heavy vocalist Alex in 2022, Russ our clean vocalist in 2023, and rounded off the low end with hatchet (bass) a few months back after not being able to find the right low end specialist until recently, but to answer the question we have been a band for around two and a half to three years and just now got the right combination of of sound.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are based out of south Florida, but the members are from everywhere, I (Brent) am from the middle of nowhere, in southern Illinois, Dez and Scotty are both from New York, Alex is from Michigan, Russ is from Georgia, and hatchet is from Connecticut so I would say this is why our sound and music fits together so well as we all have different styles and it meshes together perfectly from all of our past influences
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Scotty was playing at a baseball game and heard the phrase a moment of silence, at this point we were struggling with trying to come up with a name and had no “good” ideas, and he he came up with the play on words of a moment of violence because of our hard hitting sound, and the rest is history on that we loved it and pushed forward under the name
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
Haha, we have had a few, the one that sticks out the most is a show we did at east ocean pub, the first time performing with all 6 current members the energy was super high and we played our instruments to the best of our abilities, the crowd was moshing and everyone had a great time, but there have been many memorable moments, the best feeling though is always when people had no idea who we are and as soon as we get off stage everyone tells us how it blew their minds and we have new fans, that’s always the most memorable moments of shows for me
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
I don’t know if I really have a favorite venue to say, it’s not about the place we play it’s about the crowd and the energy that comes from that, we have played places so small that we can’t even fit all six of us on stage, and we have played clubs big enough to feel like a stadium, and festivals that we have played to the masses on outdoor stages, and as long as I’m on stage with my brothers then where we play is not an issue or concern, to me it’s all about the fun and excitement that comes from playing music that we want to show the world
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
This question is one that is very hard to answer growing up honestly I listened to a lot of country and blues and that is where all of my influences came from, but there were moments I caught myself listening to Metallica when my dad had them playing, then once I got into high school I listened to bands like tool and bullet for my valentine, but these days I catch myself listening to a lot of falling in reverse, I prevail, and bands like that, so I would say that would be the best kind of high energy lineup for us to play with I just love to feed off of crowd energy
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Just keeping going, nothing can stop you if you put your mind to it and the more you play and practice your instrument the better you will always become, NEVER put it down and always love what comes from the amp
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Hahaha practice more metal styles and not as much country, and blues never put the instrument down and be better than I am now
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
They all are monumentally special in the fact that they are ours and I’m more than proud to play them in front of people, I can’t say that one is more special than the other some are more fun to play, and depending on the night and crowd
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
My favorite song to play so far has been scrape, the response live to that song is incredible and the crowd goes crazy every time
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
The creative process really goes with Dez writing the songs as a template then getting us to listen to the song and put our own spins on our parts, or change the style in which certain parts and that is what makes our sound the way it is, when all the styles of our own get put on to a song it makes the magic that is AMoV
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
The message is just self worth honestly, the songs sound they could be depressing in some sense, but it really is about struggles that we have overcame and beat in life and everyone can as well if they stick to their guns and do what you want to the best of your personal abilities, then good will persevere
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Disagreements don’t really happen as much as group discussions, we are all grown men and can work things out amongst ourselves without the need for arguments
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Our plans for the future is to get the music to the masses, we have been lucky enough to be signed on to an amazing record label Wake up Music Rocks, and would like to make this our full time job, so that we could pour all of our energy into this and bring people some heavy riffs and pounding music, coming up we currently have three shows through the end of this year and are focusing more on getting our E.P. finished and released we will have another single rolling out momentarily, so if everyone could just hit up our music anywhere you can stream it that would be more than amazing and we would be grateful, keep and eye out we are headed to the moon.
