Interview with Alexrincon
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
My parents were musicians, so growing up I was always surrounded by music and encouraged by my family to give it a try. So I would say them culturing me is what got me into music. I also love football (soccer), and played it for over 20 years of my life. I think if music wasn't in my life I would have gone into coaching.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I'm a very relaxed person. Easy to get along with, and I can tend to be a homebody. In my freetime I like spending time with my partner and family.
How long has your band been around?
I've been a musician since I was 14, and have been playing professionally since I was 18. My current project I'm working on was really born in about 2018, so about 3-4 years now.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
I'm based out of Dallas, TX. DFW has a very interesting music scene in the sense that it's very competitive and diverse. It pushes artists to be better and constantly refine their product.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
The name of my band is simply my name, but sometimes I go under the monkier "beatzguy." Why I chose that name? No idea, it just came to me lol.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
My most memorable shows are playing in a hot basement on a DIY tour in the middle of the summer with my old punk band. That energy in the room is unlike anything I've felt before in my life, and I loved every second of it.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
One of my favorite venues is a local spot we have here called Killer's Tacos. It's a great DIY venue that's accepting of everyone and all kinds of music. One place I would love to play one day is in Europe.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
At the moment, my dream lineup for a show would be:
Don Caballero
PilotRedSky
alexrincon (me)
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Honestly just do it. Get out there and start a band. Look up lessons on Youtube and learn how to play. Play shows. Record your own music, release it yourself. DIY music is very easy to accomplish in 2023.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Don't give up, don't get discouraged.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Untitled #1. Alot of people don't know anything about the meaning of that song. I wrote the song shortly after the tragic murder of George Floyd. I remember just being so upset and angry at the system and the events that the only thing I knew how to do in a positive way to channel my anger was to pickup my keyboard and write a song. So I wrote it for him and his family. It's my tribute to the tragedy of police brutality worldwide.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
The songs I get requested the most are the Chrono Trigger lofi covers I've made. Those seem to be quite popular, and that video game has a VERY dedicated fanbase that loves the music.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
The creative process is really just my diary. I try not to force the music. I created this project as an extra outlet for me, so I try to let the creative juices flow naturally.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Even though my music is instrumental, I still feeel like music can convey complex emotions and ideas. It's similar to how people interpret an artist's painting for example. The message I hope to get across is one that is emotionally dynamic, and overall enjoyable.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Do I have disagreements with myself? Absolutely. lol
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
My new mixtape, "anewworld" is coming out Valentine's Day 2023. I've also started a new "Live Loop" series on my YouTube channel, so I'll continue to write and release music, as well as do my Live Loop series.
