Interview with Antonio Sky
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I honestly can’t remember the very first thing that got me into music, but I loved movies like Sister Act. I went to a catholic school, so I could identify with that movie. I loved the choir, the songs, and the singing aspect of it. In addition, I grew up in a musical family. Every Christmas my grandfather, and uncle would play the guitar and sing. My father also loved music, and loved to sing. Music was just always around me.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
When I’m not playing music I like to relax, veg out, sleep, watch TV, and surf the internet. Not exactly sure how it influences my creativity, but on my off time I just like to chill and relax.
How long have you been making music?
I have been singing since I was about 6 years old. I always wrote poems with hopes of them becoming songs before I knew song structure. It wasn’t until 2022 that I started actually putting my lyrics to music.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
I’m based out of North Philadelphia consisting of a predominantly Puerto Rican and Black community. Along with Pop music, Latin and R & B music was definitely a big influence on me and my singing.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
My most memorable moment was singing the National Anthem at the Philadelphia Phillies stadium. As far as shows have been those that I performed at big private events. Not only did I get to perform, but was also invited to stay and have fun at the events.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Again, my favorite place I had the privilege to sing was the Phillies stadium. I would love the opportunity to perform an entire show of my own there.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Right now, probably Harry Styles. He seems like a very cool down to earth person, and I like his Style. No pun intended lol.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Don’t overthink what you’re doing at whatever stage of the process you are in. Try to stay focused, and complete the project even if you aren't entirely happy with it. You can always go back and make edits. The point is just to get it done, and complete it. I would say to my younger self to find a mentor early on who will help guide you on your way through this process. Believe in yourself!
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
That’s a tough question because I’m proud of all my work, and put 100% into everything. The song I would say has the most meaning to me would be True Colors, since it was based on true circumstances.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Currently, Ecstasy is the most requested since it’s the only one released at the moment. I haven’t yet dropped my entire album. I will be dropping singles until further notice.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
Inspiration can come from anywhere for me. A conversation I overheard, personal relationships, a situation I witnessed, or an emotion I felt at the moment. Whatever it is I try my best to articulate the feeling on paper. No orderly process, just in a way I can remember it later when I start structuring the lyrics and melody.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them?
I am usually not one to publicly express my political views, or even discuss any challenges in my personal relationship. I rather write about these things in the form of a song, and express myself that way.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
My short term plans are to record a video for the upcoming song Ecstacy. Keep an eye and ear out for other releases in the near future.
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
Yes! You can follow me on Facebook, IG, and Twitter.
