Interview with Dinnertable
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
We’ve always been into music. Or at least as far as we can remember. We went to school together as kids and started a rock band during our teenage years which really got us both hooked to music. If we hadn’t got into music Emil would have been a pro football player and Johan would’ve been a Twitch streamer.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
When not playing music, we’re into cinema, sports and video games. We’re constantly influenced by all sorts of things but maybe cinema is the clearest influence since we both think of our music as stories and scenes.
How long has your band been together?
Dinnertable started in 2019 but we’ve played in other bands since the late 00’s.
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
In our homes and studio in Stockholm. We both live in quite small apartments and often write music at our dinner tables. That’s why we call ourselves Dinnertable.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
We haven’t played live yet and blame covid. But we’re working on it.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Glastonbury would be quite nice.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Oh great question! A great line up would be us, Tame Impala, Harry Belafonte, King Krule and Alvvays.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band?
Be patient, have fun and rehearse often!
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Don’t take things too seriously or personal when it comes to music. Just play what you like and enjoy it!
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Again Again, because it’s our latest and freshest song! 7 also means a lot to us since it was our debut single.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
7
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
As mentioned above, we get inspired by doing other things we like such as watching a great movie. When we meet we always try to have fun and work on new riffs and by then we’re so inspired that something always comes out of it.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Have fun but also stop and think about the mysteries of life.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Sometimes we disagree on musical ideas and we always try all of our ideas to get past any disagreement. It’s easy for us to compromise since we’re only two people (compared to being like 8 people in a band).
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
We have another finished single coming soon that we really like. Also we’re working on doing live shows in 2023 which will be awesome.
