Interview with Eternal Returns
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Many different aspects, right from acceptance from people to realizing your own weakness and potential. Music plays an important role for everyone It can calm you or even disturb you. Luckily we harness it to make Metal Music.
We still have a day job, part of both the worlds.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
We chill, talk about stories which captivated us to do something better. Eat together, stay together and most importantly observe your surroundings it helps your creativity process
How long has your band been around?
We have been around from 2010. It started as a bed room project eventually going live in 2016 and we have played 50 plus shows ever since.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are based out of Thane, MH, India. Nothing particular on how it influenced us but it gave us an identity.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Eternal Returns is a concept of Indian Philosophy which suggests the universe is re occurring and it will continue to do so. It means a lot to us as it have given us a purpose to fulfil our wishes.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
There are a few out station gigs which we enjoyed the most but the one that stands out was in Bangalore – Pravega. Playing for 1k people in attendance was surreal experience. Very passionate people.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Hard Rock Café is one of the best venues we have played in Mumbai. Loved playing there. We want to play as many new cities, festivals who are welcoming us.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Anything which has Wacken written on it is Metal Royalty. That would an experience of a life time.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Have a day job. Make Music, don’t listen to someone’s advice of how you should sound like as a band.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
I would politely agree to someone’s advice and do my thing. Lot of people have told us to stick to one sub-genre of Metal and label your band, we just choose Metal and added many sub genre to our Metal.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
I would like to say the recent one we are going to release in a month named the Wolf among Sheep. Our current drummer Viktor is from Ukraine, as we all known what Ukraine is going through, he still continues his metal journey with us. As metal as it gets. Cant thank him enough for his efforts.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Rise of Shoukoma is a song we love playing the most. It gets a lot of cheers. We were in the jam room when our vocalist got an idea of creating our own fantasy Goddess who is the navigator or the next eternal returns cycle of life-birth-death
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
The creative process has changed over the years. Previously it was jam together and see how the song shapes up and work towards making it better. Now since we have moved to a more online approach, we send each other what they are working on and step by step try to work towards making songs. Sometimes the vocalist pens down lyrics and guitarist and drummer add their take and vice versa
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Anti-establishment, self-realization, mythology, philosophy and many other subjects which is held in our hearts and we haven’t talked about it but through the music it can come out as a message.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Any good functional relationship has agreements and disagreements. The important part is to stick together for the greater good. After playing for a long time we have understood each other’s personality, that helps.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Future plan is to make new music, play in new cities, venues and prepare of an international tour when it comes about. Launch our new album Hunchback Hatred and just make more music.
