Interview with Freddy D
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Well, I can actually say. I followed my calling. My older brother was producing his own sound. In the living room where I grew up. He would hide his boss dr-5 in this closet. So I was too young to know what I was doing. But it was earlier enough for me to see how blessed. I was. I made my first beat and put the machine back where he hid it. Before going to work. And it was that I became my own producer. After listening in on a session. And noticing my brother listening to the beat I made. And fear of getting yelled at. I let him think he made the beat on a drunk binge lol. And my mom also had every record and artist you can think of in the house. And my mom sanged so I was giving a well rounded start and pursuit to my career. One of my tapes got out in the streets and people would be copying my tapes and riding around the neighborhood.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I am in the kitchen cooking. I love to cook. I can't believe how much I love to cook. So I believe cooking and music go hand in hand. The ability to cook promotes my patients as a music artist.
How long have you been making music?
I started very young as a kid at 13, I have been doing it everyday since. I know everybody has their 15 minutes of fame. My wish was to be the biggest artist ever!
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
I’m From Long island NY, Long island Native Chuck D, once chased me to an exit as i was leaving a performance to congratulate me on my performance. A lot of things happened early for me.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
As I mentioned in the last question. I usually have total crowd control when I perform. As an artist it can come off as if I know how to listen. But I know I make magic on the stage. I once had a crazy gentleman leap over the crowd. Just to ask me can he party with me after the show.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
I don’t have a favorite venue. I’m from NY so i played at most of the night clubs< i’m out in the west right now! Gearing up to get my name out on this side!
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
I would love to perform alongside or with Fifty cent or Kanye.and i would rock coachella
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
I would say, don’t stop living and hustling. And be a sponge of knowledge. Knowledge and education is power!
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
It’s tough for me to select a single song. When they all have their own personal meanings and touches. I have over one thousand songs recorded. So the song with my daughter titled “The one” Featuring Tamia Marie. Is strong. Most fathers want to do things with their daughters. But I find it difficult. So when I did a song with my daughter it created impossible memories for us.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
I notice my love songs are really something people like. And my hard core hip hop style. I am very versatile
I would put together a mixture of styles to compliment any show!
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
I first make my beats. As I am my producer first. And then I let the artist search the beat for words!
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them?
My message. Is that you can accomplish anything, at any age at any time. As long as you believe in yourself and the world you are creating.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Well I plan on being acknowledged as a heavy weight artist. And i want to seat in the ceo seat and sign artist and bring the world up to something that i believe is special and that's talent
