Interview with Fuat Tuaç
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I’ve always had a passion for music since my childhood, I love writing songs to express my feelings.
If music wasn’t there today in my life, I’d still be working as a lawyer J
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
A long walk by the beach, sound of crashing waves always sooth and inspire me. Being in the nature inspires me to write new songs.
How long have you been making music?
15 years
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
Toronto, it’s a very multicultural city, I get to hear different genres of music all the time from many different cultures and that inspires and influences my music.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
2 weeks ago with my band we performed in an open air patio in Kensington Market, under sycamore trees and that was such an inspiring experience. I believe being in the open air also motivates the audience.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Emmet Ray, Reid’s Distillery Pamenar, Poetry Jazz Café in Toronto. Upstairs and Diese Onze in Montreal, Gig Space in Ottawa, Jazz Room in Waterloo, Water St Café and Frankie’s in Vancouver and Hermann’s in Victoria
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
The list is too long J
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Be true to yourself, be very patient and kind to yourself and others, especially to other musicians. Never give up on your passion. That’s how you breathe. This is my advice to beginners and to my younger self.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Stay, because it is very simple and yet very meaningful. It’s about being kind to people and being one of a kind, myself.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
No Strings Attached and Uzun ince bir yoldayim.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
Trips outside the city, going to new places and meeting new people there inspires me to write music. Sometimes you need distance to get close to the things you love the most.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them.
We must be kinder and more patient to each other and we must care more about this beautiful planet we live in.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Touring, I am in the process of planning my European tour.
