Interview with Ghost Dance Band
Interview by: (Westy) of Ghost Dance Band
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Growing up in honky-tonks as a kid and seeing my dad and uncle always playing in bands, spending whole afternoons in music stores messing with whatever I could mess with just to make noise. If GDB didn't exist today id 100% be a knight in medieval times.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I am 1000% a sports dad to an extremely talented beautiful 12 year old girl named Miss Alexi Rose Dodd! So if im not doing band stuff im at softball tournaments, cheer competitions, volleyball games or boxing matches!
How long has music been your career?
Well I would say my career has existed since Ghost Dance Band was formed in 2017!
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are based out of Waco/Stephenville and DFW TX!
Tell me about the best and worst shows you have played.
Best show we've played was probably opening for Shane Smith & The Saints and The Dirty River Boys at Gas Monkey Live! (largest show was opening for Parker McCollum, Several thousand in attendance)
Worst show was...well...I'll keep that to myself lol
Tell me about your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Gas Monkey Garage (the outdoor venue/restaurant) and what was formerly Gas Monkey Live! (I believe it's now just Amplified Live! No relation to the podcast based out of Waco) They're just everything you want in a venue, load in load out team, great beer, super accommodating staff and the sound is MASSIVE!
We NEED to play Twisted J live in Stephenville and Hanks. A bucket list venue would be Billy Bobs.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Us, Manchester Orchestra, Devin Townsend, Whiskey Myers, Slipknot
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into music?
Dont!!! ha ha ha
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Rituals, the very first song we ever recorded. Although Sonically we are very different, the message it tells and the complete 180 change of styles we had to do in order to write it makes it my favorite forever.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Graveyard Song, Atychiphobia, High and Folsom is what gets requested the most (we slaughter our version of it)
What is the creative process for you, and what inspires you to write your music?
Colors, ambient sounds, dreams moods, people
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
We try to keep deep waters, but give people a gentle slope into the deep end.
Do you ever have disagreements when collaborating and how do you get past them?
Oh we butt heads all the time. Sometimes you just gotta kill your own ego, serve the song and the art and let it be what it's meant to be, not what you WANT it to be.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Yes... follow Ghost Dance Band!
