Interview with Holly Lovelady
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I don’t know really! I think it’s something I’ve always known I’ve wanted to do, I guess. If I wasn’t making music, I’d probably just stick to being an actress haha! Or anything creative! I couldn’t stick an office job at a bank that’s for sure…I’d go insane!
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
When it's sunny, I love to skateboard! Love making daft live skate videos. But when It’s raining, maybe go the library? Libraries are just so chill!
How long have you been making music?
For about 9 years, I think.
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
I’m sorta based all over really. I’m from Liverpool so I grew up there. My mum lives in the lakes so I spend lots of time there too! I’m often in London when I’m needed so I think being based in so many places does over time influence me….I do mix quite a few genres in my music so maybe subconsciously that’s because I’m influenced by the areas I travel to and live in. Each area does have its own unique music scene.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
Before covid I played a beautiful church just outside of Liverpool, It was so special I Loved it! Everything about the gig was amazing, the venue was stunning, the audience so friendly, best acoustics ever! It was the last concert both my Nan and Grandad came to and they sat right at the front…. Just a beautiful time really.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
I love singing in churches and hope to hold more concerts in the future…Maybe do a church tour haha! I’m really looking forward to playing Smock Alley in Dublin on the 6th April. It’s a stunning venue full of character… It used to be a boy’s school room! It’s so quirky! Ireland is incredible for its music venues… They know how to throw a gig that’s for sure.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush, Sade, Harry Styles, I don’t know! Loads of people!
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Don’t let professional jealousy knock your confidence. Just persevere, be kind and believe in yourself. Great things will come!! Hard work and talent will always win.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Mate! That’s like asking a mum who her favourite kid is!
But “Steal The World” means the most to me. It gives you a beautiful message… Listen to it on my Youtube!
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
‘Oreanne’ gets requested all the time. Love singing it! And ’Something In The Way’.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
I always write songs at the piano; I can’t write a song without faffing about with some chords. People inspire me to write songs, the people I meet and the stories they have to tell.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music? if so please tell me about them.
Sometimes I have a message and sometimes I just tell a story.
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
‘Year Of The Cat’ is out now ! YEY! But the next track is called ‘Running’ and it’s a BOP! I think everyone will like it! Lots of drums and backing vocals in this one haha.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
I’m going to continue to release singles over the next 12 months so lots and lots of music coming out this year. In August I’m at the Edinburgh Fringe for the whole month in a one woman musical called TOPLESS written by Miles Tredinnick and music by me. The show is set on a open top bus so we are actually doing the show on a open top bus. Madness! It will be fun! Come see the show! Its funny, sad, dark…it’s a ride…literally!
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
I love having a chat to people on Instagram @Hollyloveladyofficial. It’s nice to get to know the people who listen to my music… come say Hi!
