Interview with Jake Silva
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
From a very young age, I’ve always loved music. When I was 4 years old I started playing instruments like the violin and piano. What really got me into producing and DJing was my family. I am blessed to have two individuals in my life that are direct family who are already in the music business. If I never got into music, I would be continuing my career as a civil engineer.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
When I’m not playing I love to go out with my friends, workout at the gym, and play soccer - whenever I get a chance. What I think influences creativity is taking frequent breaks while you're producing, like going for a walk when it’s nice out, or working out to music that inspires ideas.
How long have you been making music?
I have been making music for 5 years.
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
I am based in Long Island, New York. I think it definitely influenced my love for house music.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
One of my most memorable shows was New Year’s Eve at Sony Hall. It was completely sold out and the crowd was amazing! Everyone loved the music and was full of energy!
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
My favorite venue to play at so far is Nebula. Some places I want to play at that I haven’t are Ushuai in Ibiza, Premier Atlantic City, and HQ2 pool party over the summer.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
If I could play any show it would definitely be UItra Miami with my favorite artists in the lineup like Acraze, Nicky Romero, Claptone, and John Summit.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
My advice to someone getting into making music is you are going to face a lot of rejections, almost all the time. Sometimes it’s just because it’s not the right fit for a certain label and other times it has to do with something in the mix. You have to know going into this industry that 90% of the time you’re going to get rejected and to not get discouraged from it.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
The track ‘Back To Me’ that’s coming out mean’s the most to me. I love the emotion in the buildup and vocals of the track. I’m excited to share this one with everyone soon.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
My favorite song to play right now is still “Drugs from Amsterdam” by Mau P. I get requests to play Bad Bunny the most.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
First starting with a vocal and working the music and melody around the vocal. I find it best to make music this way.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music? if so please tell me about them.
Always to enjoy your life to your fullest and be the happiest you could be every day!
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
I have a new single on Groove Basement coming out this month and another on Gemstone Revealed coming out in March!
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
I’d love to grow with my music and possibly get bigger bookings. My hope is to start headlining venues in the city soon.
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
