Interview with JC Sol
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Tripping the light fantastic!
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Love spending time with my hubby and fur baby….Keeps me grounded and happy.
How long have you been making music?
In a professional sense, it’s my second time around. After a hiatus from touring in the 80’s, began a new era of writing and recording in 2019.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Although now living in the small town of Binbrook, growing up as a teen in Burlington, Ontario has inspired me to write in the nostalgic tones of days gone by, with a modern twist.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
My most memorable performances were most definitely experienced while touring in Europe and the United States. Just so much fun.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Lately, I love performing in more intimate settings that allow me to connect with my audience.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Michael McDonald, Stevie Wonder and Lalah Hathaway.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Write when inspired, be patient with the process and don’t compare yourself to others.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
“Our Groove” is closest to my heart. It was so well received by music curators and audiences alike, it inspired me to continue writing with a deeper passion.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Although I’ve yet to perform my newer originals live, I’m looking forward to doing so in the near future. “ Our Groove”, “ Best of Things “ and “ Unrequited Love” are the most requested by fans.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
I write organically, when inspiration calls. Inspiration comes in many forms depending on the day. It could be anything from listening to my playlist, to listening to my heart.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them?
Love Songs are my main focus, both happy and sad. We can all relate to the pain and pleasure of relationships.
