Interview with Mikaila Murphy
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
My friend Sam Watson got me into music! I was backup dancing for an artist and he was featured on the track, so that’s how I met him and he convinced me to make music! This was about 4 years ago. If I never got into music, I’d still be doing exactly what I’m doing now, music is just another fun thing for me to do!
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I like to get work done or sleep! If musics on my creative juices flow too much to focus!!
How long have you been making music?
About 4 years now
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
LA, it made it a lot easier to connect with people! However it also made it a lot easier to have people try to run my music business and make it too serious to where it wasn’t very enjoyable for a while. LA is full of opportunity, but sometimes it’s hard to have room for trial and error to try new things. My sound has been all over the place because people have been telling me what to release and how to make my music, but I’m getting ready to release MY art now, and only what I want from now on!
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
Playlist live!! It was incredible! And my first release party, that was my first time ever performing and I felt so supported!
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
I haven’t performed live much, that’s not really my jam (as of now) I just make music because I love it.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Summer walker!
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music?
Stay true to yourself! Make what YOU want!
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
To stay true to myself and do what I want lol. I know my business best.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
What goes around come around, because it’s a 100% true story that happened literally the day I walked into the studio.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Bad bitch energy is always most requested!
What is your creative process like, and what inspires you to write your music?
I usually write based off my emotions that day. I’ll listen to the beat, usually I tell my producers the vibe and he makes it on the spot and then I just get to poring my heart out!
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
That it’s okay to feel the emotions that we feel! I like people to know they aren’t alone!
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
I am working on an EP with music that is very close and personal to my heart:)
