Interview with Naga Brujo
Hello! Great to speak with you today!
Hey! Thanks for having us.
What have you been working on lately?
We are in the process of dropping the first single, ‘Sick Sad World’ on September 9 th and second single 'Black Magick’ on October 29th off of our new EP ‘Canceled’ along with some video content to go along with them. The EP will be available on all streaming platforms so make sure to check it out!
Who inspired you to get into music?
Our singer, Asia, and guitarist/vocalist, Jake, were practically born into the music scene, Asia being the product of several generations of musicians and Jake being forced to pick up an instrument by his sibling at a very young age. Our bassist, Jacob, and drummer, Dylan, picked up their instruments growing up to fill voids in their respective scenes that far too often exist with rhythm sections.
When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?
We all knew when we started the band 9 years ago that no matter what we wanted to see how far we could get with it. We knew it was a passion we had to follow even if it wasn’t our sole career so we all have our day jobs but sacrifice almost all of the free time we have to pursue music.
What is your favorite song youve ever released and why?
As a band I would say our favorite currently released track is ‘Stripper Face’ off our debut album because it is an intense and challenging song but doesn’t forget to stop and groove. That being said, I know personally my favorite is going to change when we release our upcoming single, ‘Black Magick’, which is a roller coaster of a song starting with a deep but catchy intro into a doomy Sabbath-like riff and resolving with a thrash punk outro that leaves you wanting more.
Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?
Artists like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Ty Segall/Fuzz, Amyl and the Sniffers, The Sword, and local upcoming Austin artists like The Well, Rickshaw Billies Burger Patrol, Greenbeard, and Pleasure Venom are leading a resurgence of original punk, rock, and metal, the ripples of which can be felt deeply in the underground scene and is hugely inspiring to us.
What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve?
I hope to see more of an embrace of the independent and underground music scenes. There’s tons of great artists and musicians out there that aren't receiving the appreciation they deserve because they aren’t constantly creating social media content.
Please let everyone know how they can keep up with you and your music!
Our debut self-titled album and all upcoming releases are/will be available on all streaming platforms including spotify, apple music, bandcamp, amazon music, youtube, or our website (nagabrujo.com).
