Interview with New Unity
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
-When I was 13, my father was watching a Green Day live in Japan show and the way Billie Joe played the guitar and engaged the crowd with his songs inspired me to want the same thing, that was when I got my first accoustic guitar. If it wasn't for Green Day, I would probably be a Biologist now.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
-Most of the time I like to be by myself, even when I'm not playing music, I am listening to it, and that inspires me
How long have you been making music?
-Since I was 18. I remember that I wrote my first song after I watched U2 singing Ordinary Love live, that got the spark I wanted to start my own band and songs.
Where are you based and how has that influenced your music?
-I am based in Brazil, out culture is a lot different from what we do as a band. We love all music styles. but the mainstream here is sertanejo and funk carioca. I was raised listening to internacional bands and artists like U2, Coldplay, Green Day, Rolling Stones and many others so they shaped me and I love it!
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
-My most memorable show was definitely U2 360° Tour. I didn't actually go there but I watched the entire show in my house and I wish I was there, what an experience must have been.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
-For now, my favorite place is Arena Club, our local venue, but I really want to play in any stadium full of people like Allianz Parque, Madison Square Garden and many others, that is our dream as a band.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the line up?
-That is a great question and a hard one but I would love to play with U2, Coldplay, OneRepublic and Imagine Dragons, they are my biggest inspirations
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
-Listen to great artists like Queen, Rolling Stones, U2, Coldplay, OneRepublic, The Beatles, Imagine Dragons. Have them as your biggest inspirations for music but, and that is an advice for my younger self to, listen to every other artist as well. The more music you listen to, the better.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
-Be more responsible and more mature, a lot of things would have been different and probably better for me
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
-Definetly our most recent one, Feel Again. I have been through many heartbreaks, like a lot of people, and I know it is not easy to have to let it go, specially with someone you though it would work out and you were already falling for.
What is your creative process for writing your music and what inspires you to write your music?
-My creative process sometimes involves a lot of procrastination and sometimes it comes all at once. Most of our songs talk about what I have gone through and even what other people have but I didn't. Those experiences, be it a heartbreak, anxiety, depression or any other inspires me to write about it.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
-No matter what you are going through, there is always something positive to look for, there is always a new beggining, it is not the end.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
-Keep going as a band and always writing new songs, that is our dream. We do have another single ready we really want to release, but we are going to place it in our next
EP that we will start to work at.
