Interview with Pain Was Left For Me
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Music has always been pivotal in my life. Our lives.
Probably some type of engineering.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Maybe some video games with the boys. Honestly. We’re pretty boring. We all have day jobs and families to take care of.
How long has your band been around?
Technically 12 years. But we reformed in 2013. So. 10 years in December of 2023
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Knoxville Tennessee. It’s really just given us drive. This town can be pretty boring honestly.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
We wanted to get rid of our old name and rebrand a little bit. We kept getting confused as a Christian metal band with our last name, and that just isn’t us.
We’ve had two members die tragically, my mother passing away and the abuse our vocalist endured. So he actually came up with the name and original imagery we used.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
The polish ostrich in Toledo Ohio. Sound guy kept blinding us with the strobe light trying to mess us up. We killed it.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
It’s not around anymore. But a place called Daisy Dukes in Nashville Tn.
We really wanna play at Capones, also in Tennessee
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
BTBAM, Gojira,& Deftones
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Keep going. You’re gonna get haters. Ignore them because they are usually not going anywhere and want to have you suffer like them
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Pick better friends.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Makes Me Strong from our “Pain” Ep. It’s dedicated to my mother.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Honestly. I love them all. But Blight, Something So Wrong, Makes Me Strong have been the most popular
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Orvada and myself usually do the majority of the writing. Most of our songs came from improvised jamming and we would record it with my phone and go back and fix them up
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music? Everyone has a story. You’re never alone. No matter how bleak it may seem
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Hardly. We’re actually really civil with each other
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
We are working on a new guitar player and hope to start recording a full-length album and go on tour next year.
