Interview with Quintessa
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
The sound of creation is one song. Life itself is a divine orchestra of which God is the conductor. As long as I’m alive, I am in music and music is in me. As soon as I open my mouth, I am singing with the choir. As I live and become more aligned with God’s plan, more attuned to God’s frequency, and thus more sensitive to God’s voice, I am able to bring forth the signature voice, the unique sound, that God assigned and blessed me with in the moment of creation. From this authenticity, I create. Spirit express itself through me, which allows me to harmonize with creation itself and connect with all that is. In love. In truth. I am in a musical family; life is a musical family. Therefore, I would still be and am still doing what I am doing today, regardless of what I am doing.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I live and I love it. Breathing is inspiration - life is art. I appreciate the value in each moment. I immerse myself in presence and allow my awareness to be expanded to reveal God’s glory in every experience I’m in. There is always joy available - so I enjoy life itself, learning and growing. Being outside, in the sun, in nature. Plants, animals, water. Meditating. Moving, exercise, dancing. Cooking. The list is endless.
How long have you been making music?
I love singing, being part of choirs, learning about my instrument and opening up the voice. I love writing, whether its lyrics, poetry, stories, journaling, whatever. I love producing, beat-making and creating songs. I also dance which helps with my musicality. I’ve been doing these things all my life, though I started considering it as a career after high school, and began putting my work online in 2016.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Im currently in Toronto. It’s a great city for artists. An abundance of creativity and supportive communities. The diversity of culture is brought together by the spirit of the people. Its lively, the sound is always fresh.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
A show is to present oneself. My job as an artist is to show up in authenticity and be present. To expose myself, in vulnerability, before God, so that spirit can flow through me and connect me with the crowd in a celebration of life. Any show in which I can share in that moment is forever. And in terms of size, the more the merrier.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Everywhere is sacred, from the most intimate venues to the greatest of spaces. The goal is the same. Be you, you are love, so bring all of you into it.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
As long as God is the headliner, the show is solid. There are so many talented artists that Id be honoured to share a stage with. Probably like Drake, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, to name a few.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
We are blessed with life, the opportunity to be part of God’s creation. God is life. The one. All that is. In truth, God is love. Being made in the image of the creator, we’re always creating. As we grow in the creative process and life reveals itself to us, we do our part by creating from this awareness. We’re all in this together. Let the golden rule rule. Be true, be you. Keep the faith. In times of trouble, this too shall pass. Balance is key.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
The song im currently working on is called “one word”. It is about love, God and how in the beginning was the word. Tbh, I started writing a long description but im gonna keep it simple for now. We are connected in God, words are a meeting of minds. I - love - you.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
I aim to make songs that I can always enjoy playing. People do seem to be responding well to the song I mentioned, which I love.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
Life. And yes, these answers are all related. And yes, its all love homey. Life, love, music. The chords and the melody, the beat, the lyrics. Whatever comes, I just let it flow and go from there. Let it be, naturally. I receive ideas through meditation.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them?
Universal messages. To continue with that idea ^, meditative state, being open to receive. Being receptive to the spirit. In a way, I speak when spoken through. I receive a word from God and share it. I do my best to remain still enough to hear the voice of truth and clear enough to channel it through me unimpeded by limited perspectives and opinions. So yeah, I love a good message, one that glorifies God, the gospel.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
God’s plan.
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
