Interview with Rachel Cousins
What can you tell us about your new music video?
There isn’t a new music video out for the album yet, but we do have many many ideas and plans for some.
When people listen to your music, what are you hoping they get out of it?
I can only ever wish that people find comfort in my music regardless of what the songs are about. Music is a form of communication, & the most rewarding thing to me as an artist is when listeners let me know how my music helped them through situations in their life.
How would you describe the sound of your music?
Vibey is my favourite word to describe my music. I go by the vibes of literally everything in life, so it applies to my music as well when I’m in creative mode. I try to make my sound fresh, fun, clean, but most of all vibey.
Who would you say are some of your musical influences?
Lennon Stella, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Maggie Rogers, & Shawn Mendes all give those really good pop sounds as well as the beautiful acoustic tracks which I’ve always appreciated in music.
Did you always know that music was something you wanted to pursue?
It was what I always told my parents I would do when I grew up. At 15 years old I was telling my parents I wanted to sign a record deal & move to LA. My dreams have never changed throughout the years.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians? Everybody feels that self-doubt you feel, & being an artist professionally is hard, but you are so capable. Be intuitive & always trust yourself first. Someone else’s success is not your failure. What is your favorite song to perform live? I love singing Aftermath live. Vocally I feel like it showcases me best & it’s also a super personal song. It’s always an audience favourite.
