Interview with Shiny Glide
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I have been listening to music since I was 3 years old, music totally seduced my body and soul since I started playing guitar and writing songs when I was 13, it was the best way to express my deepest emotions and free my wildest desires and imagination. Music is a divine gift, so it saved me from evil temptations and roads. If it wasn’t for music, maybe today I would be a criminal (probably like Robin Hood) or a porno star and a gigolo. But no matter how crazy my life has been.I never really wanted to betray the music and the poetry in me so I chose and even more now I choose to remain clean, light, healthy, and free from any types of troubles and addictions.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I like watching tv shows, reading ebooks, meditate, driving and listening to music in the car, staring at the moon by the sea with my wife, and run and do exercise in beautiful parks and beaches
How long have you been making music?
All my life since I was a teenager
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
Right now I am based in the Dominican Republic, my wife is Dominican, great beaches and great natural juices, but I am not into Latin music, so I am planning to return to Rome in September, and maybe after that, I will try to go to Boston. There is a great music scene in the States, I used to live in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Dublin in Ireland. Great musical towns and very inspirational places. My dream is to find a good manager and have the chance to tour everywhere my music is appreciated and requested the most.
Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?
In Dublin I had a great acoustic show in the Da Club, just guitar and vocals performing some of my songs. People love music in Dublin, and the audience really like my songs so I received a standing ovation and a 5 minutes applause.I invited a girl there, and she got so upset and jealous for the success I had, that she told me to have sex with my guitar. Another night in Dublin I played as a support act, and a girl in the audience told me, she preferred my solo acoustic 15-minute show to the main band 2 hours show. Another time I was just traveling in the beautiful countryside of Ireland with an Irish shepherd friend of mine and he started crying when I was singing and playing a tune with my guitar. He must have been a very sensitive man, he told me my song was so beautiful it made him cry. Best compliment I have ever had.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
I love to play in theaters, where people are quiet and they are just there for the music and not to drink and talk. That is great, so I can relax, get into my songs, and give the best of me to the audience.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Anyone or anything nice and in tune with my music and me, I don’t like to get stressed and waste time with idiots or jealous haters. I must have met too many.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
I would advise to stay healthy, and professional and practice daily for many hours. I would also advise to live in a very musical town and to stay away from toxic relationships and heavy drugs and always look for inspiring and supportive people, places and situations.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
All my songs are very meaningful and poetic, otherwise I wouldn’t write them. There is a new one called Dear Beast I wrote recently and it will be part of an Ep that will be released on July 2. It is very important because it represents the way I overcome evil people and forces and all sorts of troubles, ironically refering to the devil ( Dear Beast) that still seems to be the king of this world, but obviously he is not the king of my world, Thanks God and big thanks to my spirituality, free will and Music.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
There are many songs I get requested, I cannot remember all of them now. Some of them are : “ In Danger Of Extinction,” Richest Man On Earth,” “Criminal On The Run,” “Perverse Hermit”, “ Stranger At Home”, “ Eternal Youth, “ “ Dear Beast” “Universal Love” “Sweet Freedom “, “ Fly” and many more….
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?
I make music anytime my spirit has the urge to express something relevant and share it with the world.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them?
All my songs have important messages I need to share, I hope I can inspire people to have always faith and to love and respect other people, animals and nature,.I also hope I can inspire people to be light and free, and not to live much in their heads or in the past, I invite people to be generous, true to their spirits and follow their dreams, because nothing is impossible if you live in the present, create peace, work and rest well, and life is more beautiful and magic if you don’t have a big ego and don’t care what people say and think about you and you can ignore all digital and real life haters.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
My plan is to get some good management and booking agent, to have a strong team and let my music expand and reach more and more people from everywhere.
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
