Interview with Stained with Silver
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
We all have different tastes in music…
From the metal sub-genres, to jazz and even classical music.
We all have our own paths in life but the urge and passion to create something bigger binds us together.
Every single one of us got into music in a different way.
It's hard to pin-point what we would do besides music; we all have other stuff we do that kind of helps the band out.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Besides being a band, we are good friends as well. We hang out a lot, all of the band mates, and have fun together.
How long has your band been around?
“Stained with Silver” has been around since the end of 2021. The band was formerly known by another name, but was rebranded after a change of bandmates and musical direction. The EP “Before the Heavens” consists of our original materials being re-composed to better fit our new direction, and better represent us as musicians.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are from Tel Aviv, Israel, which is the heart of the metal and alternative scene in Israel. Tel Aviv is a very accepting city, and contains many cultures, which leaves a lot of space for artists to shine, as a cultural center. The metal scene in Israel isn't a very prominent culture, but one thing for sure is that the community and the people in the metal scene are the most generous, kind and lovely people. Bands and fans connect on Facebook groups and announce shows, help each other out, or just chat.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
For us "Stained with Silver" means covering one's true intentions behind something that draws the attention away - like staining something with silver.
Our song "Suits" From our EP "Before the Heavens" heavily inspired the name as the lyrics of the song represent a lot of the same ideals - a big inspiration for our name was the line "Their game of power, of blood-stained gold".
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
In October 2021, we had our first serious show named "New Blood".
The concept of this concert was to take four new bands from the local Israeli core scene and to have them play their original songs for the first time. The show turned out to be a huge success as we sold out the venue, and established a small, very supportive fan base.
It was a great chance to meet and play alongside the other bands who later became close friends of ours.
It should be noted as well that this was the first show we booked by ourselves and we planned it together with the other bands.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Our love for playing our music has made us realize that as long as we have our instruments, a stage and our fans in the crowd, everywhere could be a venue.
We don’t really have a favorite venue but it would be a dream come true to play venues outside of Israel, or play one of the big stadiums in our country - it will be especially incredible to achieve that as a metal band.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Our dream lineup would probably be to play alongside Northlane, Bring Me The Horizon and Erra. They are all a huge inspiration to us and would be a dream come true to play with.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
For those who are just now getting into playing in bands – just have fun.
Being in a band is one of the best experiences you can get as a musician.
Don't forget to be yourself, play what you want to play and don’t let others bring you down. For our younger selves, take stuff more seriously and spend less time trying to impress other people.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Work hard, focus on having fun making your own art and doing what you believe you should do, and even though it’s hard - sometimes you just have to deal with the fact that nothing can be absolutely perfect.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Our newest single "Apart" is the most meaningful song we released to date as it talks about the struggle of your closest environment breaking you down and rising above the expectations of others.
Which songs are your favorites to play and which get requested the most?
We all have different favorite songs to play but the one that gets brought up the most is "Apart".
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
The creative process behind our music starts with guitars.
Most of the time our guitarists will lay down some riffs and bare bone songs and pitch it to the other bandmates.
We mostly write our music in rehearsals or jam sessions.
As for lyrics all the band sits down brainstorming and writing together
every one of us has different inspirations about writing our music; it's more of collaboration when it comes to influences for a specific song.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Mostly ideals that we believe in, either something that pisses us off or if it’s a subject that we think should be more talked about.
We mostly write about everyday problems and everyday struggles.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Yes, a lot of them, but that’s what makes us grow as a band and as musicians.
We’ve learned the hard way that fighting over each other's ideals and creative thought can be frustrating and pointless. These days we learned to accept each other's requests and ideas, or at least listen until the end.
It's important to trust the process because it's hard to pass a creative idea to others as you only think about yourself and so a lot of people cancel others in the start.
Just try to listen and wait as much as you can to really let others express themselves.
This September you will play on Psycho Ward Festival, can you tell us a little bit about the festival and what set list you prepared?
We’re very excited to partake in the festival.
If we look back two years ago, we would’ve never believed that we would get here.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our old school fans, the ones who supported us from the start, so we decided to dedicate the set list to them, and keep it classic.
We hope they’ll appreciate what we have planned.
We are also very happy that a festival this big is happening in Israel, it really shows the support from the fans and the willpower to plan a festival of this size - and we as a local band are beyond grateful for that.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Right now we are in the process of making new songs and writing down new ideas for future songs.
We know you all are going to love it as much as we do.
We are also planning future shows – this festival will be only the beginning of us getting on big stages.
You can expect more surprises to come until the end of this year.
