Interview with Stone Theory
Hello Stone Theory!
Thank you for speaking with me today! You are about to release new music! Will you tell us about it?
Our debut single is called Cruisin’, written by our vocalist and keyboard player, Kelly Cole. It’s a song about the escapism experienced by going for a drive.
What was the creative process for it?
The creative process, in the beginning, wasn’t much of a process. Cole recalls, “I had worked a particularly long shift the summer after I graduated high school, and I needed to clear my mind. I ended up going for a drive and instantly started singing the beginning lyrics and the vocal melody to Cruisin’. I just started singing about what I was doing and then thought, ‘Well, that’s not bad’. The entire song, besides the solo section, (which was written by the whole band) was completed during that car ride."
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
The song is meant to have a classic 60's and 70's rock and roll feel to it, as the entire band is very much influenced by the eras. With inspirations such as The Beatles, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and more, we strive to bring back a vintage rock and roll sound.
Who would be a dream collaboration for you?
Most of the bands and musicians that we would love to collaborate with unfortunately don't exist anymore. However, as far as modern bands, one of our biggest dream collaborations is Greta Van Fleet.
Do you have a piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?
The best advice we could give to other musicians is to look for mentors and bands that have sustainable success and look into what they did to be successful. Also, build relationships with local bands and musicians and form mutual partnerships. See as much live music as you can, ask lots of questions, and always work on original material.
Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
We are looking to release a couple more singles and then our debut album within the coming year, and have already begun the recording process.
Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
