Interview with Studio D'Lux
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I remember starting a band with friends from school in maybe 4th grade, we didnt even know how to play at all yet. So it was just something in me i guess
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I dont have any real hobbies which is not a good thing. Im a baseball fan for sure but thats not doing anything
How long has your band been around?
This project is new, We ve been recording 2 years now. Trying to put together live dates w this kind of talent is difficult to schedule.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Im from NJ. I dont think anything about NJ influenced me. I was influenced by the great music on the radio as a kid in the 70’s and the great era of rock albums.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Well, its more of a studio project so i wanted to infer that and the D is really my initial and the Lux just kinda sounded cool.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
The guys on the recordings would be perfect, Bill Champlin, Liberty Devitto, Jon Herington, Glen Burtnik
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
The business is so crazy and ever changing so its tough to say. Musically, keep practicing and get your voice working.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Sometimes you just come up w a musical idea when playing keyboards or guitar. As far as process , I record some keys, guitar and a vocal w a drum loop. Then Liberty Devitto will record drums and brings the track some real fire. From there the other guys like Jon Herington, Bill Champlin or who ever is going to be on the song will record their ideas.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
I dont like to preach anything in the songs but i do want to convey some kind of message and not have throw away lyrics.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Hoping to play live w Studio D’lux. I have new songs in the hopper that will get recorded and released.
