Interview with Summon Luke
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I've been drawn to music since I can remember. Everyone in my family is musical, and we all love to share what we're listening to with one another.
I truly cannot imagine life without music. I find that, even when I am not actively trying to make or listen to music, I still will naturally gravitate towards music.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I enjoy film, video games, and software development outside of music. These mediums will directly influence songs I'm writing. A few months ago, I released a song called "Jellyfish Girl" that was directly inspired by a quest from the video game "Elden Ring"
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
I am based out of Columbus, OH. I find a great deal of inspiration from the music scene here. "Milky Way" was a song written by a musician from Columbus (Katie Dotson).
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Give me a good spot at Glastonbury.
Bring Radiohead back as one of the headliners, and let me see a private Rufus Wainwright performance.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice, what would it be?
Do releases more often... they don't all have to be perfect, and not everything has to be a concept album.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
They all mean a great deal to me. I love making them, releasing them, and performing them.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
I tend to write songs that are story-like. I'll try and set the scene, and place an image in the listener's head with the music & lyrics.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
I plan to steadily release new music and content throughout the year. There may be a full-length LP in the near future! My next release will be music I did for the feature film "Moongarden". If you haven't heard of it, "Moongarden" is a Fantasy/Horror style film along the likes of Pan's Labyrinth, and it will be in select theaters next month.
In addition, I have a group, and we've been performing shows in and around Columbus OH.
