Interview with Terrible Sickness
Hello guys, what got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music, what would you be doing today?
Hello, well we all have regular jobs beside the band. What got us into music is the old story i guess. You get passionate about it and then you want to do it yourself. You try to create music that you would like to hear.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music, and how does that influence your creativity?
For me personally, i like to travel. That gives you a new perspective in regard to other cultures, as well as your own. I think every now and then being exposed to something new can be vital for ones creativity.
How long has your band been around?
12 Years
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We all grew up in the countryside. I wouldn’t consider this as a strong influence but since there was’nt much bands arround it was a motivation to do something yourself.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
That was our drummer’s girlfriend's fault. There is no special meaning behind it. I think it just fits well for Death Metal.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
There was a show where we opened up for Krisiun. The venue was packed, and the band was super nice to us, and even helped us out at the merch table.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
I think we don’t have a favorite. We just like to play, but it would be cool to have some shows outside of Germany.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Oh there are many. Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Nile...
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Prepare to compromise, be easy to work with and have fun.
Create as much as possible, try a lot.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Get a good teacher!
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Slaves to Decay because i think it is the best i wrote for the new record.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
For me many songs are fun to play. I can’t say that i have a favorite. What got requestet a couple of time is “Terrible Sickness” from the first record.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Mostly we write at home, bring that to the rehearsel and work on it together. Inspiration comes to the bands we listen to, sometimes movies or just the times we live in i believe.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
We have various topics in our music. Some more meaningful than the other. See if you can find one.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Yes, democratic vote!
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Well, we hope that we can play a lot of shows next year since regulations are mostly gone. Of course our new Album that is out now and we have our first video shot that will be released soon.
