Interview: Zack Sympson
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Heartbreak initially got me into music and I think I'd be in the Police or Army if I never discovered music…
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I like to go for long drives and enjoy nature. Nature inspires my creativity.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
I am based out of Christchurch, New Zealand. It's home so 90% of my life experiences are there… That in itself is enough to influence me to write.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Ed Sheeran!
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Have patience and trust the process. Success doesn't happen overnight but each day is an opportunity to grow.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
A song I haven't released yet about forgiveness. It relates to my experiences with family.. I am saving that song for a special time.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
That heartbreak and sorrow is a chance to build your character. When you learn to move on, your heart becomes stronger. I aim to help people with my music.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
My plan is to keep releasing music and see where it takes me. I want to build a solid fanbase too. I have three new songs coming out in April so I'm super excited about that!
