Interview with Even Flow
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
The passion of my parents for the world of music made me approach and curious I started to study it!
Surely if I had not approached music I would be a footballer or a swimmer, even if in everyday life I do something else!
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I have to be honest, right now in addition to music, I really like going to look at nature and discover its scents, from there I draw a lot of inspiration and creativity!
I often go to the beach and many times I get beautiful musical ideas, which then return home I record.
How long has your band been around?
It has existed for 23 years!
It was founded in the late nineties when my brother and I were just teenagers, I think Even Flow is a good part of our lives.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We live in Sardinia a small Italian island, I can tell you that for us living here is a fortune because it has allowed us to dream and fight for our music, our land has influenced us a lot with its culture and its traditions.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
The name of the band comes from the emotions it transmits during the live shows and from the evolution that the band has had over the years in musical terms, the name EVEN FLOW seemed right to us to be able to represent the band.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
Playing at Rock The Castle in 2019 in Villafranca di Verona with Slash, Sebastian Bach and many other rock stars of which we are super fans plus the tour in the Baltics with the Eluveitie.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
A place that I really like is the Randal Club in Bratislava, I find that place exceptional.
The dream is to play at Wacken Open Air, Hell Fest & Masters Of Rock, they would be dreams that would come true.
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Good question! I would say in this case Iron Maiden, Angra, Dream Theater, Fates Warning & Queensryche!
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Honestly, it is difficult to give advice to a young band, nowadays I would recommend making an Ep, promoting it with 3 promotion agencies that can cover Europe and the World, and being able to take a booking agency that can organize medium / large concerts.
The advice I would have given myself as a young man could be not to waste time with people who do not have the mentality to share your goals.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
As advice, I would give myself to find a good producer who can rearrange the songs
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
For me the song that means the most is Secret Prayer from our album "Life Has Just Begun", it is the song in which it gave us the opportunity to make ourselves known more, and opened many paths for us.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
My favorite is Infinity from our album "Life Has Just Begun", it is the song that is requested the most.
There is also Ray of light that I like to play a lot from our new Ep "Mediterraneo" which will be released on October 3rd.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
It inspires me to write music when I look at nature or the sea, I can tell you that even everyday life inspires me a lot.
The creative process is simple, I start composing the songs with the acoustic guitar and from there I try to understand the vocal line, after I have made a draft of the music, I bring it to my brother who puts the rhythm and finalizes the song.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
With our music the message is one of hope with the idea of a better future, a message of positivity that our music wants to share.
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Yes, of course! Before finding a stable line up we took many years!
When there are disagreements we talk to each other and confront each other to find a solution, if then we cannot find a solution, we separate and everyone takes his own path.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
The plans for the future and to be able to release the new album we are already working on, to be able to promote in the best possible way our new Ep "Mediterraneo" that will be released on October 3rd, and at the same time to be able to play as much as possible!
Thank you so much for this fantastic interview at the next one!
