Interview with LOLA'S NEWFANGLED ROCKERS
When did you create your project?
Lola and ChordSlinger have been working together for around 10 years. We held online auditions and formed this group about 4 years ago.
Υou are an international band. Which countries are your members from?
Lola de Hanna (vocalist and song writer) is our front woman with a unique voice who was born and raised in Greece.
ChordSlinger (keyboardist and song writer) has always lived in the outermost suburbs in the Heartland of America.
Kike is our drummer and mixmaster. He was born in Córdoba, Argentina, and still lives there.
Jezzy Micheals is our bass player. He was born and raised in Darwin, Australia.
Miguel Castellanos is our acoustic guitar player. He was born and raised in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
BC Bungee ( guitar player) grew up and still lives in Belgrade, Serbia.
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Everyone in the band has had a different experience, of course. I think that is fair to say that all of us have loved playing since we were very young. I do know that BC would have preferred growing up to be a Jedi knight, and that ChordSlinger might have spent his time as a mathematician.
How long have you been making music?
All of us have been playing since we were very young. Everyone has their own albums out and are studio-level musicians.
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
We are based in the United States. I would say that has had almost no influence on the group. Occasionally, we have some misunderstandings because of language translation issues. Sometimes it is funny, but we always get through it eventually. This is a group in which each member brings their own unique individual style(s) and experiences from different parts of the globe. That has been the plan from the beginning, and is exactly how we want it. We work to weave it all together, and are very proud to say that we believe the sum is greater than the parts. What we have confirmed in our experience together is that people all over the world are more the same than different. In our ultimate dream, we would like the rest of the world to follow our path to world unity.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self
Believe in yourself and practice your songs at a fast tempo. So, a song that has a tempo of 100, practice it at 120 until you can play it smoothly. Then 100 becomes very easy.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Honestly, everyone likes something different. For example, ChordSlinger loves Stop This War. Lola loves Hole in my Heart. So, that one
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
It’s a little different since we are all online. People can stream whatever song they like. We have had a lot of plays of Stop This War, Hole in my Heart, and I Will Rise Again.
What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music
Often it starts with a simple idea. ChordSlinger had some medical issues at one time, and that inspired “I Will Rise Again”. He started writing lyrics and adding some chords and sent them to Lola who worked on the vocal melodies and it developed from there. We are mostly inspired by personal experiences which we believe people of the world will understand universally.
Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music? if so please tell me about them.
Our message is one of world unity. This is a group in which each member brings their own unique individual style(s) and experiences from different parts of the globe. We work to weave it all together, and are very proud to say that we believe the sum is greater than the parts. What we have confirmed in our experience together is that people all over the world are more the same than different, and that the people of the world should come together (as opposed to the politicians). We have all become friends, and it is a tight knit group. In our ultimate dream, we would like the rest of the world to follow our path to world unity.
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
Our most recent release was a song called “Stop This War”. Instead of a protest song, it is the story of a young woman who is caught in the middle of invading forces. We believe that you can understand more about the impact of war from someone who is effected by it. If you listen, you will understand.
