Interview with Standing Crew
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
It came suddenly as a thunder. It just put you do something – play, sing and make your own songs. Without getting in to the world of music I woud be a business man..
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
I am spending my time at a little cottage near by a small lake. I am walking around with my dog and camera trying to catch some nice moments in my mind and some pictures in my camera.
How long has your band been around?
The band has been around from 2018.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
We are smalltown kids and that means that we haven’t got an influence of rush ours and subways – but we have been listening what the big boys did do in the big world far away. And then we tried to do music like them with our own twist..
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
For me who came in to the band half a year ago it means that also we older rock and roll musicians can stand behind this attitude – rock and roll will never dye! We are the Standing Crew!!
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
With this band the most memorable show was the first gig with me (Mr Fire) at Lapuahovi december 2022.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
At the old days I was in Ylioppilastalo Tampere and it was a great place to have a show. Of course it would be fantastic to play in Provinssi here in Seinäjoki!
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
It would be my sons Jules and Tiitus and my best friend Junnu..
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Be patient and listen to the voice of the older musicians and listen to your own heart at the same time and do things you wanna do without any preconceptions.
If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
The most important advice would be “enjoy the life - enjoy the moments – enjoy the friends and family” there ain’t too much the good moments in this life. And the best things of your life are not so far away- they are just around you and they are quite simple ones.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
This is a personal answer but anyway First Noel and Burn In Hell (Like Me) are the most important songs to me (so far) because I did sing those.
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Nowadays we like to play the newest single Burn In Hell (Like Me) - because it is the first official song to be released with the new singer Mr Fire. And as an encore we like to play “Freak accident”
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
The creativity comes suddenly as all the other good things in this life - you can’t plan the moment when you are creating something. It is just to play together or with yourself and so sometimes you can find you doing some good notes and having good fibes and then you can say - oh - what a good song I did!
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
There ain’t no plans to change the whole world with our music but a small thought to enjoy the music and having some good time with us. Of course some lyrics have some message and story behind them but they are about love and hate, pain or joy and such as normal individual feelings
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
If you have 5 guys doing something together it’s gonna be at least couple of wrestling matches before you can decide something.. But it is normal here - some do it physically and some verbally as I (because it’s easier to me to be winner in a verbal game..)
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
We are going to release a couple of singles before the Jacobs Day (25th of june) and then later on this year it’s gonna be out the full album of our music.
